Engaging Wisdom Cards

I made my own “Spiritual Direction Wisdom Card Deck”

I made my own “Spiritual Direction Wisdom Card Deck”

This is what I do when I engage with Wisdom Cards or any kind of Tarot Deck.

Find a quiet place to be.

Clear a Space.

Do something to mark the beginning of your sacred time - light a candle, burn incense, anoint yourself, say a prayer, read yourself a poem…

Set the stage. Whenever I pull cards, I make a place setting. In this example - I drew cards on the velvet with labyrinth stitching for the Spiritual Journey’s metaphor. You may want to have a special item with you - a stone, icon, flower in a vase…

Take a cleansing breath.

Take a grounding breath.

Take a centering breath.

Invoke any teachers, healers, aides, guides, angels, etc. you may wish to be with you.

Extend yourself the grace of stillness and silence for as long as you need.

Shuffle your cards…

Questions may bubble up - leave room for them…

I usually ask questions like:

“What do I need to know right now?”

“What guidance do I need?”

“What should I hold close to my heart?”

“What wisdom do you have for me?”

Draw a Wisdom Card. What does it have to tell you?

I kept this deck very simple. Simplicity gives room for interpretation. I can ask myself more about the pictures in the deck. I also enjoy word association and find it fun to let the mind act like popcorn popping.
